The death of Klaus-Michael Kühne marks the end of an era of bold business dealings in the German magnate's empire and transfers his fortune of 49 billion dollars to a discreet Swiss foundation. As part of a succession plan prepared long ago, Klaus-Michael Kühne's portfolio, which spans shipping, aviation, chemicals and real estate, will belong to the Kühne Foundation, making it one of the largest in Europe. The foundation is supervised by a board of trustees that includes some of Kühne's closest advisors and his wife. At the center of everything is Kühne+Nagel, the logistics giant that was the basis of the magnate's business empire.
