João Silva Nunes, guest assistant professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS) of the University of Porto, was awarded the 2026 Miriam Friedman Ben-David Prize by AMEE – The International Association for Health Professions Education. This distinction recognizes professionals who excel as "New Educators" in health professions education.
The jury praised Nunes' career path in medical education, which began during his undergraduate training and developed throughout his clinical and academic career. Nunes himself stated that the distinction represents significant recognition of his work in this area.
Nunes is involved in the Executive Committee of the Medical Education Office and coordinates the Biomedical Simulation Center at ICBAS. He is also a PhD candidate in Medical Sciences, with research focused on the competencies and training needs of health professions educators.
The Miriam Friedman Ben-David Prize, created in 2008, is awarded annually to professionals who have made significant contributions to health professions education, including a monetary value of 1,000 pounds, a certificate, and the possibility of leading a webinar in the AMEE program.
