European Commissioners Costas Kadhis, responsible for Fisheries and Oceans, and Glenn Micallef, in charge of Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, will co-organize tomorrow in Brussels the Youth Policy Dialogue entitled "How to make youth participation in the Arctic more inclusive". The event will feature ten young people selected through the EU-funded project "Youth Together for Arctic Futures", part of the EU Arctic Youth Dialogue initiative.
During the dialogue, participants will share experiences and ideas on how the EU can better support inclusive participation of Arctic youth in decision-making processes. The commissioners will also seek young people's opinions on the upcoming Blue Renewal Generation Strategy, a flagship initiative of the European Ocean Pact that aims to make careers in maritime sectors more attractive.
The event takes place within the framework of the EU Arctic Forum and the Arctic Youth and Indigenous Peoples Dialogues, which were held on September 1st and 2nd. The opening ceremony will be conducted by the Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Síkela, and by Costas Kadhis himself.
This meeting comes at a crucial moment, as the EU is updating its policy on the Arctic in response to evolving geopolitical, economic and environmental developments. Youth Policy Dialogues are an essential part of the European Commission's commitment to integrating young people's voices into policy-making, aligned with President von der Leyen's Political Guidelines for 2024-2029.
