The Samiguel festivities in Cabaços, Ponte de Lima, celebrate Saint Francis of Assisi this year with the theme "Francisco: Santo", combining devotion to Saint Michael the Archangel with the agricultural and community memory of the parish. The main days of festivity are scheduled for September 19, 20, 26 and 27, a month particularly linked to the cycle of the earth.
The celebration coincides with the Season of Creation, observed by the Church between September 1 and October 4, the date of Saint Francis of Assisi. The figure of Francis inspires the festivities through his connection to nature and care for Creation, values that find an echo in these celebrations.
The festival recovers traditional practices such as the corn shucking, the grape harvest and the old-fashioned olive pressing, bringing to the center of the celebration what has sustained the community's life for generations. In the First Fruits Procession, farmers bring to the churchyard the fruits of the land's labor, conveying the idea that what arrives at the table begins with the seed, the field and the hands of those who cultivate it.
