"It makes you want to give up": Deer attack chestnut trees again in Cova de Lua

Jornal Nordeste2 September 2026 at 09:00

The chestnut trees in the village of Cova de Lua, in the municipality of Bragança, are being targeted by recurring deer attacks that destroy the plantations of local producers. The damage has been repeating for several years, causing significant losses to the region's agricultural activity and leaving producers frustrated and without effective alternatives.

The affected producers have tried various strategies to protect their crops, resorting to fences and improvised solutions. However, these measures have not been sufficient to stop the animal attacks, which continue to cause damage to the chestnut plantations in the area.

Faced with this situation, the Parish Council of Cova de Lua took the initiative to request a formal intervention from the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), hoping that the authorities will find a solution to the problem that has been affecting local farmers for several years.
