The US military Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday that its forces successfully completed attacks against military targets in Iran, in retaliation for Iranian attacks on US bases in neighboring countries. The targets hit belonged to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including air defense installations, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine-laying capabilities and communication sites.
The US attacks come after recent attempts by the IRGC to attack merchant ships in the Strait of Ormuz and to target US military personnel in the region. Iran had retaliated against US bases located in neighboring countries to Iran, after launching attacks against these targets.
CENTCOM stated that the attacks were carried out successfully and aimed to degrade Iran's military capability to carry out future threats against US forces and interests in the Middle East region.
