The prostitution sector is in full swing after the US nuclear aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln docked in the tourist city of Pattaya, Thailand, on Wednesday (9/2). The giant vessel carries 5,000 sailors and Marines who spent 270 consecutive days at sea, setting a modern record according to Democratic lawmakers quoted by the Independent.
The Lincoln left its base in San Diego, California, in November and was subsequently redirected to the Middle East to support military operations in the conflict between the US/Israel and Iran. The visit generated great expectations of an economic boost in the Pattaya region, a city known both for its natural beauty and sexual services.
Authorities and police in Pattaya stated they will intensify the fight against prostitution, which is illegal in Thailand. However, it is acknowledged that the operations may not be sufficient to contain the demand generated by the presence of the thousands of American military personnel.
