Spanish scientists collaborated with researchers from European and North American institutions to gather data from 46 oceanographic campaigns conducted between 1976 and 2018. This vast dataset, spanning more than four decades, allowed for an in-depth study of the Mediterranean Sea's evolution.
The main objective of this research was to better assess the effects of climate change on the Mediterranean. Through this long-term analysis, scientists were able to identify patterns and changes that would be impossible to detect in shorter-duration studies.
This study represents a significant contribution to understanding how climate affects enclosed seas like the Mediterranean, providing concrete data on the transformations that occurred over more than 40 years.
