Iran attacked several American military bases in the Persian Gulf on Wednesday, in retaliation for an airstrike carried out by the United States against the country. The American attack took place on Tuesday and targeted installations of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, including air defense systems, radars, and maritime facilities, as reported by US Central Command (Centcom) through social media platform X.
Iranian forces claimed to have launched a "decisive retaliatory operation" using missiles and drones, targeting "American bases and interests in the region." The information was published by the state-run Tasnim news agency. The Revolutionary Guard, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, subsequently claimed responsibility for the action against the American bases.
This is the second American airstrike against Iran in just a few days, which has escalated tensions between the two countries in the Persian Gulf region. The American offensive was announced by Centcom itself as concluded, but triggered the Iranian response hours later.
