Videos circulating on social media show the moment when New York police shot at a woman who had stabbed two people in Times Square, Manhattan, on Monday afternoon. The woman was identified as Pamela Cisneros, 49, and died after being hit by the gunfire. One of the people attacked by her also did not survive their injuries.
The images, recorded from more than one angle, show at least ten police officers surrounding the woman, who was holding two large knives. The officers repeatedly ordered her to drop the weapons. At one point, an officer used a taser, but Cisneros remained standing.
Following this, the woman quickly advanced toward the police officers, with the knives in her hands. Two officers then drew their firearms and fired at her. The incident was recorded by witnesses and quickly spread on social media, generating widespread reaction.
