An operation by the 20th Community Interactive Company (Cicom) of the Amazonas Military Police seized approximately 2.5 tons of marijuana on Monday, at a residence located in the Cidade das Luzes community, in the West Zone of Manaus. Two men who were at the scene were arrested during the police action.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, the Amazonas Secretary of Public Security, Colonel Anézio Paiva, reported that the seized material was skunk-type marijuana, a variety of Cannabis sativa that has a higher concentration of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive substance present in the plant.
According to Colonel Paiva, the location was preparing to carry out the transfer of the narcotics, which indicates a large-scale distribution operation. The seizure represented an estimated loss of R$ 48 million to the criminal organizations responsible for drug trafficking in the region.
