The Variante Nascente do IP2, in Évora, opened to traffic on September 2, concluding one of the road interventions financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The information was released by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), which includes this work among the five last road construction projects completed under the PRR investment, representing a global investment of approximately 179 million euros.
The other completed interventions include the capacity increase of IP8 on the link between Sines and A2, the Variant to EN211 in Quintã/Mesquinhata, the section of IP8 between Ferreira do Alentejo and Beja with Variant to Beringel, and IP8 between Santa Maria de Sado and Ferreira do Alentejo with Variant of Figueira de Cavaleiros, all opened to traffic on August 31.
Infraestruturas de Portugal stated that it met all 21 contractual Milestones and Targets under the PRR, achieved between June 2021 and August 2026. The established target of completing at least 111 kilometers of roads was exceeded, with the completion of 154 kilometers, which was essential for Portugal's 10th Payment Request to the European Commission.
IP became the PRR beneficiary with the largest volume of support received in Portugal, having already received 508 million euros from the European Union, corresponding to 94% of available funding. All 24 road construction projects of the PRR were awarded to Portuguese companies through international public tenders.
