Rádio Campanário1 September 2026 at 22:17

The Eastern Variant of IP2 in Évora opened to traffic on September 2, constituting one of the last road interventions completed under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) announced that this work is part of a set of five road construction projects completing a total investment of approximately 179 million euros, covering interventions in different regions of the country, including sections of IP8 between Sines and the A2, the Variant on EN211 in Quintã/Mesquinhata, and sections between Ferreira do Alentejo, Beja and Santa Maria do Sameiro.

The remaining projects opened on August 31 include the capacity increase of IP8 on the link between Sines and the A2, the Variant on EN211 in the Quintã/Mesquinhata area, the section of IP8 between Ferreira do Alentejo and Beja with variant to Beringel, and the section of IP8 between Santa Maria de Ourique and Ferreira do Alentejo with variant of Figueira de Cavaleiros. These works contribute to strengthening connectivity, safety and capacity of the national road network.

IP revealed that it met all 21 milestones and targets contracted under the PRR, achieved between June 2021 and August 2026. The target of building or requalifying at least 111 kilometres of roads by August 31 was exceeded, with the completion of 154 kilometres. This compliance was essential to anchor Portugal's tenth and final payment request to the European Commission.

In total, Infraestruturas de Portugal received 508 million euros from the European Union for PRR implementation, corresponding to 94% of available financing, making it the PRR beneficiary with the largest volume of support received in Portugal. All 24 road construction projects were awarded to Portuguese companies through international public tenders. In the railway sector, IP expanded the initial scope to include investments in cybersecurity, telematics and signalling, in addition to the digitalisation of railway transport.

How to plan for retirement above the INSS cap?

In the CBN Dinheiro program, specialist Marcelo d'Agosto answered a question about retirement. Listener Juliano wanted to know if investing in Treasury Income+ 2040 was a good strategy to complement the INSS and obtain income above the cap at retirement in 15 years. The specialist explained that the advantage of this security is allowing estimation of the future value of monthly installments for 20 years, with current returns of inflation plus 7% per year, which can be attractive in a high interest rate scenario. However, he warned that if interest rates fall in the coming years, it may be necessary to reassess the strategy. As an alternative, he mentioned stock investments, which tend to benefit from a lower interest rate environment.
