During the four months corresponding to the beach season, 22 deaths were recorded on Portuguese beaches. Twelve of these deaths resulted from drowning, representing more than half of the total fatalities. Authorities continue to search for a bather who has been missing since August 28.
In addition to the deaths, the rescue services managed to carry out 1,285 rescues of bathers during this period. These numbers highlight the intensity of activity on the beaches during the summer season.
The beach season, which runs for four months, covered a significant period of greater concentration of people in coastal areas. The data collected allows for the assessment of the impact of the security measures implemented and the need for constant vigilance in these areas.
