The beach season resulted in 22 dead and almost 1300 rescues over four months. This balance was revealed by the National Maritime Authority (NMA), which warned about the prevalence of accidents in unsupervised areas.
Since May, authorities recorded more than two thousand medical assistances on the beaches. There is also one missing person unaccounted for during this period.
The NMA emphasized that many dangerous situations occurred in unsupervised coastal zones, appealing to the population to respect the indications of lifeguards and safety signage.
