Twenty-two deaths marked the bathing season on Portuguese beaches

The bathing season ended in Portugal with 22 deaths on Portuguese beaches between May 1 and August 31. The majority of deaths were caused by drowning, according to the balance sheet released by the National Maritime Authority.

The authority's balance sheet also indicates that 1285 rescues were recorded during this period, in addition to 2359 first aid actions carried out on the country's beaches.

The National Maritime Authority is the organization responsible for monitoring and coordinating safety in Portuguese coastal zones during the bathing season.
