On Tuesday morning, the city of Granada and the southern zone of its metropolitan area felt two earthquakes in just four minutes. The first occurred at 11:54 a.m. in the town of Armilla, with a magnitude of 2 and intensity III classified as "weak," at a depth of four kilometers.
Just four minutes later, at 11:58 a.m., a second earthquake of magnitude 3.2 mbLg originated in the Southern Alboran Sea. This second earthquake was felt in Granada city center, in the southern zone of its metropolitan area and also in the Autonomous City of Melilla, which is the Spanish mainland location closest to the epicenter.
Both earthquakes were of shallow origin. The epicenter of the first was located in Armilla, while the second originated in the Alboran Sea. To date, no material damage or casualties have been reported as a result of these seismic events.
