Budens e Barão a Brincar Brought Together Generations, Communities and Local Traditions

Postal do Algarve1 September 2026 at 19:10

The fifth edition of Budens e Barão a Brincar concluded after nine weeks of activities aimed at children and young people from the parishes of Budens and Barão de São Miguel, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo. The holiday camp, promoted by the two parish councils, had 57 participants divided into two programs: Budens e Barão a Brincar for children aged 6 to 12 and BBB Júnior for young people aged 13 to 16. Throughout the summer, the program included sporting, cultural, environmental and artistic activities, such as beach outings, surfing, workshops, games and social gatherings.

One of the components of the 2026 edition was exchanges with other communities, through visits to Marmelete and Odeceixe, providing contact with different realities. The intergenerational dimension was present in visits to the Budens Retirement Home, where participants shared games and memories with the elderly. In BBB Júnior, the activity "In my time... AI was my grandmother" focused on collecting and sharing memories between generations, with the collaboration of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Vila do Bispo.

Sustainability and environmental education were areas worked on during the summer, with activities on the parish's biodiversity integrated into the Eco-Parish application. The creative side included pottery workshops, embroidery, reed work, crochet, artistic expression and circus, with part of the works integrated into the "Summer & Art" exhibition at the Interpretation Centre of Vila do Bispo. The program concluded with the traditional camp at Camping do Serrão, in Aljezur, with three days dedicated to adventure and socializing.

The project has financial support from the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, combined with investment from the parishes, allowing the same participation values to be maintained since 2022. Ana Custódio, president of the Parish Council of Budens, states that Budens e Barão a Brincar is more than a holiday camp, being a project built over five years with families, children, young people, monitors and partners, intending to provide a summer with space to play, experiment, learn and create memories.
