Rádio Campanário1 September 2026 at 18:58

The Cavalry Regiment No. 3 (RC3) promotes, on September 4th and 5th, 2026, a set of initiatives to celebrate its 319th anniversary, also coinciding with the Centenary of Estremoz's Elevation to City. The main initiative is the traditional Marcha a Cavalo from Elvas to Estremoz, which aims to recover a historical connection between the two localities and reinforce the Regiment's proximity to the populations of the crossed municipalities.

On September 4th, participants depart from the Military Museum in Elvas at 08:00, heading towards Estremoz with a scheduled stop at Terrugem at 12:00 and arrival at Vila Viçosa at 18:00. In Vila Viçosa, the delegation makes a stop next to the City Hall, providing a moment of contact between the military personnel and the local population.

The following day, September 5th, the march resumes with departure from Vila Viçosa at 08:30, continuing through the municipalities of Borba and Estremoz. The arrival at the Cavalry Regiment No. 3, in Estremoz, is scheduled for 12:00.

The initiative aims to celebrate not only the history and military traditions of RC3, but also the heritage and identity of the territories crossed, promoting greater proximity between the military institution and local communities through the equestrian tradition that marks the Regiment's identity.

"Progress paradox": how to turn the renewable boom into an actual drop in emissions

A recent UN report details the risks associated with exceeding the 1.5°C limit of global warming and explores the so-called "progress paradox" — the idea that the growth of renewable energy, although positive, can paradoxically lead to a net increase in emissions if not accompanied by adequate structural policies. The document explains that, for the renewable boom to translate into a real reduction in carbon emissions, systemic changes are needed in how energy is produced, distributed and consumed, including investments in electricity grids, energy storage and energy efficiency.

UN recognizes for the first time that it is inevitable to miss the Paris Agreement target

The UN recognized for the first time that it is inevitable to miss the target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels, as established by the Paris Agreement. According to a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the best possible scenario is warming of 1.8 degrees. However, the document emphasized that it is still possible to reverse this trajectory and make the temperature recede by the end of the century, through aggressive reductions in carbon emissions.
