Police join case of students from same school killed in São Gonçalo; underage sisters also ill

The Civil Police are investigating the deaths of two teenage sisters who attended Colégio Estadual Augusto Cezário Díaz André, in São Gonçalo. The deaths occurred a few days apart. The case is under the responsibility of the 72nd Police Station. Two younger children, aged 3 and 6, sisters of the deceased young women, are also hospitalized, with an expected discharge on Tuesday (1st), according to the city government.

As soon as the deaths occurred, the school community suspected a possible contagious disease. The municipal and state Health departments initiated a series of prevention actions, such as sanitization of the school, vaccination of the children, and sending samples for laboratory analysis. Health authorities have been conducting tests to determine the causes of the deaths.
