A fire broke out at Quinta de Santo António, in Setúbal, on land managed by the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU). The fire started at 2:44 PM and consumed several structures intended for urban allotments.
Civil Protection acknowledged that the number of shacks destroyed by the flames may exceed one hundred. Authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
The incident occurred in a sensitive area, given that these are public lands assigned to IHRU, the body responsible for housing and urban rehabilitation in Portugal. The causes of the fire have not yet been disclosed.
