Leiria. Six sentenced to up to nine years for drug trafficking

The Leiria court convicted eight people for drug trafficking-related crimes. Two defendants were convicted of both trafficking and illegal weapon possession, while six others were convicted solely of trafficking. The sentences imposed reached up to nine years in prison.

The suspects were identified as members of a cocaine trafficking network. The drug was imported from Ecuador and arrived in Portugal hidden in boxes of frozen squid, a method used to conceal the substance from customs authorities.

The scheme involved the importation and distribution of cocaine through an organized network. Authorities managed to identify and dismantle the operation, leading to the detention and subsequent trial of the defendants.

The sentences reflect the gravity of the crimes committed, with penalties varying according to the degree of involvement of each defendant. The two defendants who were also convicted of weapon possession received higher sentences due to the accumulation of crimes.
