The Amadora-Sintra Hospital has the emergency department "the most overloaded in the country" according to official Ana Paula Martins. The situation results from a combination of factors that increase the pressure on emergency services.

The lack of doctors and nurses is pointed out as one of the main causes of this overload. Without enough professionals, emergency services face difficulties in meeting the growing demand from patients.

Another identified problem is the absence of a family doctor for 240,000 patients in the region. This gap in primary healthcare means that many patients resort to hospital emergency departments as an alternative.

The combination of these factors creates increased pressure on the emergency department of Amadora-Sintra Hospital, making it the most overloaded at the national level.
