The past few years have been marked by intense transformation in Brazil's financial market, driven by the popularization of Pix, the emergence of Open Finance, and the advancement of areas such as embedded finance, data intelligence, and accelerated credit digitalization. These changes are significantly impacting the role of banking correspondents in the country.
The term banking correspondent refers to companies or professionals authorized by a financial institution to offer banking services on behalf of banks or fintechs. They function as a customer service and distribution channel for financial products outside the traditional bank branch structure.
According to Sérgio Sadok, COO of financial marketplace BKOpen, Brazil has the necessary conditions to become the largest digital financial correspondence ecosystem in the world. According to him, the country has a highly technological banking system, an extremely active Central Bank in regulatory innovation, and a population with strong adoption of mobile banking, which allows for the gradual replacement of physical and traditional intermediation models.
