The "12 Months 12 Walks" initiative will hold the Bouça dos Homens Trail on September 13, in the Serra da Peneda. This trail invites participants to discover a landscape marked by large granite outcrops, ancient seasonal settlements (brandas) and mountain paths that bear witness to the ancestral relationship between humans and the mountain.
The route begins at Branda da Bouça dos Homens, located in one of the highest areas of the mountain range, constituting an important testament to the traditional system of seasonal occupation of the mountain. From here, the trail crosses a landscape of imposing granite formations, deep valleys, water streams and meadows traditionally used for forage production.
Along the way, participants will encounter the Wolf Trap (Fojo do Lobo) and ancient mountain trails once traveled by shepherds. During this time of year, these paths are also used by pilgrims who, moved by faith, make their way to the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Peneda.
With approximately 5 kilometres, the meeting point is scheduled for 9:00 AM at the Chapel of Branda da Bouça dos Homens. Registration is mandatory and must be completed by September 11.
