EasyJet announced on 1 September that it operated the busiest day in its history, with over 2,000 flights carrying more than 343,000 passengers across its network. In the United Kingdom specifically, over 196,000 passengers flew to or from British airports on more than 1,100 flights, setting a new milestone for the European low-cost airline.
This record occurred during EasyJet's largest ever summer season, in which the company incorporated eight additional aircraft from the Airbus A320 family into its UK-based fleet, distributed across the cities of Bristol, Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow. The airline is offering more than 39 million seats to and from British airports during the summer season, half a million more than the previous year, and 53 new routes launched for the first time this summer.
Among the new routes are options for long-haul leisure destinations such as Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco. With the end of the school holidays and the return of unpredictable British weather, many travellers took advantage of the last opportunity to enjoy late summer sun during the extended bank holiday weekend, with Palma, Faro, Alicante and Milan being the most popular destinations for last-minute trips.
Kevin Doyle, EasyJet's UK head, said that this record demonstrates the importance of affordable connectivity and the role that travel plays in bringing people together, stating that the company remains focused on facilitating travel for customers with more options, great value fares and a warm welcome on board.
