Visa card holders can benefit from free mobile data plans when traveling abroad, thanks to a partnership between Visa and the company GigSky. This offer is part of the Visa Destinations program and allows users to avoid purchasing local SIM cards or using roaming solutions from their usual operators. To check if you have a Visa card, simply look for the brand symbol in the bottom right corner of the card.
The benefit conditions vary depending on the card type. Visa Infinite card holders, both personal and business versions, can get up to seven days of unlimited data and a 30% discount on the purchase of additional plans. For Visa Infinite Privilege cards, the offer also extends to Canada. For other Visa cards, including debit and prepaid cards, the benefit can reach three days of unlimited data, with a 20% discount on complementary plans.
The campaign currently covers six destinations: United Kingdom, France, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, United States and Mexico. Canada is also available in the selection process. Between April and the end of July 2026, the coverage associated with the United States will be extended to all of North America, in the context of the World Cup.
Eligibility verification is done through the GigSky app, available for Android and iOS. The user must select "Check your card" on the home screen, then "Check Eligibility", enter the card number and confirm. It is not necessary to create an account to verify eligibility, but the plan can be activated up to one year later. One limitation to note is that free plans are not valid for connections on cruises, although discounts on purchasing data packages for ships continue to apply.
