Santarém has pioneering chemotherapy preparation room

Observador1 September 2026 at 16:28

Santarém District Hospital will now have the country's first modular room for the preparation of cytotoxic medications. This infrastructure represents a pioneering solution for the health unit.

The modular room will allow a significant increase in the capacity for preparing these specialized medications. Until now, the existing conditions limited the volume of treatments that could be prepared.

The cytotoxic medications prepared in this room are used in oncology treatments. The new infrastructure aims to improve working conditions and safety in the handling of these drugs.

The project emerges in response to the need to expand oncology services in the district of Santarém, providing better care to patients who need chemotherapy.

'Opportunities to expand consciousness': new study reveals the advantages of being single

A study published in the journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin in August revealed that being single can bring significant benefits. Scientists examined what they called the "self-expansion potential of singlehood," meaning the idea that being single offers opportunities to expand consciousness and self-knowledge in a similar way to what was previously associated only with intimate relationships. The research suggests that, according to the self-expansion theory, people can develop personally and expand their consciousness through different paths, including life without a romantic partner.
