Central Bank Director criticizes presence of bets in financial apps and says measures against high indebtedness will be announced soon

oglobo1 September 2026 at 15:38

The director of Supervision of the Central Bank, Ailton Aquino, announced that the regulator is preparing transparency and macroprudential measures to combat the high indebtedness of the Brazilian population. The statements were made during an event of Zetta, an entity that brings together financial technology companies.

Aquino criticized the presence of bets advertisements in the applications of financial institutions, stating that these online betting platforms are a central element for the indebtedness of Brazilian families. According to him, this relationship is "undeniable."

The director reported that the macroprudential measures should mainly target credit card lines and payroll-deducted loans. Aquino stated that the current moment in the credit market requires a focus on the financial health of the population, and no longer on credit inclusion.

The Central Bank is working on a transparency agenda, with the expectation that measures will be announced soon to contain the advance of family indebtedness.
