The Local Health Unit (ULS) da Lezíria inaugurated the first modular room in the Iberian Peninsula dedicated to the preparation of oncological medicines. The new infrastructure was installed at the District Hospital of Santarém and aims to reinforce the capacity for preparation of cytotoxic medicines used in oncological treatments.
This modular room allows significantly increasing the capacity for preparation of these specialized medicines, as well as improving the working conditions of the health professionals involved in this process. Cytotoxic medicines are used in chemotherapy and require specific preparation conditions to guarantee the safety of both patients and professionals.
The implementation of this room represents an investment in oncology in the Lezíria do Tejo region, responding to the growing demand for oncological treatments. ULS da Lezíria serves a significant population in the Ribatejo area, and this new infrastructure addresses an important need regarding the safe preparation of highly complex medicines.
