In July, Portuguese people increased their overnight stays in the national territory by more than 4%, a growth that contradicted the initial predictions of the hotel sector. This increase represents a significant boost to one of the main engines of the national economy.
The growth in Portuguese domestic tourism compensated for the slowdown recorded in foreign tourism during the same period. Thus, the hotel sector managed to maintain positive activity levels thanks to the increase in domestic demand.
This phenomenon reflects a trend of appreciation of domestic tourism by Portuguese citizens, who chose to remain in the country to enjoy their vacation periods during the month of July.
