Fenprof: Schools have 2,650 positions to fill days before start of school year

Barlavento1 September 2026 at 13:15

Fenprof, the National Federation of Teachers, reported this Monday that there are 2,650 positions to be filled in Portuguese schools just days before the start of the school year. The union warned about the difficulties in hiring teachers, which may compromise the normal start of classes.

The warning comes at a time when many schools have not yet managed to complete their teaching staff for the new school year. The situation raises concerns about the capacity of the Portuguese education system to respond.

Fenprof has been closely monitoring the development of this situation and continues to advocate for urgent solutions to ensure that students have access to qualified teachers from the first day of classes.

The content was published by Barlavento, a regional newspaper from the Algarve, which has been paying attention to educational issues in the region and the country.
