Russian President Vladimir Putin met on Tuesday (1) with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of State meeting. During the encounter, Putin stated that Russia stands in solidarity with the Iranian people in their fight against the United States and Israel.

Putin also declared that Russia and Iran will maintain their economic and trade relations, regardless of the current political and military scenario. The statement comes amid threats from the US to impose a new sanctions regime against any country that economically cooperates with Iran, including close allies of Russia and China.

The Russian president also commented that the country is providing "necessary assistance" to Iran at this moment, but did not specify how this assistance is being carried out. For his part, the Iranian president thanked the Kremlin leader for his position in the conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel, expressing confidence in the partnership between the two countries.
