This is how roasted onions are prepared in space

Correio da Manhã1 September 2026 at 13:25

NASA published a video on Tuesday showing astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway preparing roasted onions aboard the International Space Station. The video demonstrates the process of preparing this food in space.

The space station only has a food warmer, which significantly limits culinary preparation options. Due to this limitation, the "cooking" process of the onions can take between 12 to 24 hours to be ready.

Why muscles are an organ of longevity and how to preserve them | By Kristina Verdilhão

Portugal has an average life expectancy of 82.5 years, but only 59.6 years of healthy life, meaning over 20 years lived with limitations. The article explains that muscles are fundamental for longevity, as they are metabolically active and help regulate blood sugar. With aging, muscle mass decreases — from age 70 onwards, approximately 1% is lost per year — leading to sarcopenia, associated with falls, fractures, and loss of autonomy. Studies show that even very elderly people can significantly increase strength with resistance training. The article proposes a simple test (standing up and sitting down five times without using hands in under 15 seconds) and recommends strength exercises at least twice a week, or three times for those over 65.
