University education returns to the municipality of Chaves

University education is set to return to the municipality of Chaves. The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) had emptied the activities of its campus in Chaves, leaving the municipality without any public higher education offerings.

The municipality of Chaves now views with anticipation the possibility of converting the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, a partner of UTAD, into a university. The mayor believes this transformation could strengthen development and social cohesion in the region.

The creation of a university in Bragança emerges as an alternative to restore the presence of higher education in the Trás-os-Montes region, after UTAD's courses in Chaves were transferred or closed.
