A team of archaeologists is "absolutely confident" that they have discovered the lost biblical city of Bethsaida, in northern Israel, a place where Jesus is believed to have performed miracles according to the New Testament. The Bethsaida-Julias excavation team has unearthed in recent months a large collection of artifacts, including lamps, makeup utensils, coins, and dozens of other objects on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.
The finding reinforces the long-standing theory that this place houses the ancient city where Jesus performed miracles. The discovery was made during the tenth season of excavations at the archaeological site.
Steven Notley, academic director of the excavation, explained that the team takes into account the accumulation of evidence collected in all excavation areas, which paints a picture of the historical profile of the ancient site. According to him, this image becomes clearer with each season of work.
