Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the United States' return to a policy of pressure and threats could undermine diplomatic efforts to end the war in the Middle East. In a speech at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan, Pezeshkian criticized the repeated violation, by the United States, of commitments made in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, stating that the lack of effective guarantees undermines the path of diplomacy. The statement comes after President Donald Trump called Iran a "bankrupt nation" and stated the country "is dead" in a social media post.
