Shein shares sink more than 9% on stock market debut

Público1 September 2026 at 10:40

Shein's shares sank more than 9% on the day of their stock market debut. The Asian fashion giant thus completed one of the biggest IPOs in the tech sector in recent years, but without the enthusiasm normally expected in this type of operation.

The company managed to secure significant proceeds of 22.3 billion euros with the initial public offering. This value represents an important milestone for the company in its global growth journey.

Shein revealed that it intends to use a substantial part of these proceeds to strengthen its international presence. The strategy involves further expanding its markets outside Asia, where the brand has been gaining market share at an accelerating pace.

The negative performance of the shares on debut contrasts with the company's expansion ambitions. The market showed some caution regarding the company's valuation, at a time when the online fashion sector faces growing challenges of competition and regulation.

Farmer reveals how much he receives for tomatoes that cost up to 3 euros in the supermarket: difference surprises

A Spanish farmer, Juan Carlos, revealed that he receives around one euro per kilo of tomatoes, while the same product costs between 2.50 and 3 euros on supermarket shelves. The price difference along the food chain has been one of the main complaints of the agricultural sector in Spain, which faces growing production costs, adverse weather conditions, and competition from imported products. Although there is a Food Chain Law in Spain aimed at preventing sales below production cost, farmers argue that greater control and more effective enforcement of the rules are needed to ensure a fairer distribution of value throughout the entire chain.
