The annual inflation rate in the euro area rose to 3.3% in August, according to data revealed this Tuesday by Eurostat. This value represents a significant increase compared to the 2.9% recorded in July and the 2% recorded in August of the previous year.
According to the publication, Portugal was above the euro area average in this indicator. The acceleration of inflation in the monetary bloc raises concerns about the price trajectory in the region.
The Eurostat data indicate a reversal of the downward trend that had been observed in previous months, with the August rate clearly exceeding the 2% target set by the European Central Bank as the objective for price stability.
