Wind gusts up to 68 km/h were recorded at meteorological stations in Rio de Janeiro during the early morning hours of Tuesday (1st), according to the Alerta Rio System. The Copacabana station recorded 68 km/h between 4am and 5am, while the Marambaia station registered 60.8 km/h during the same period. A cold front is advancing through the city, bringing forecast of moderate to heavy rain, with thunderstorms, starting in the afternoon.
On social media, residents reported windows shaking, power outages and concern about the intensity of the wind during the early morning. Some users also questioned the absence of Civil Defense alerts during that period.
A Civil Defense alert was sent to cell phones around 5:53am, advising the population to seek a safe location and providing the phone numbers 199 and 193 for emergencies. The Alerta Rio System recommends that residents remain attentive and follow updates from the COR-Rio channels.
