Friburgo gets vans for intermunicipal patient transport

extra1 September 2026 at 09:04

The City Hall of Nova Friburgo, through the Municipal Health Department, presented 19 new vans that will operate in the Out-of-Home Transport (TFD), a service responsible for taking patients from the municipality to consultations, exams, and treatments offered in other cities. The new vehicles went into operation this Tuesday.

According to the municipal health secretary, Gabriel Wenderroschy, the vans are part of the new bidding for the service, which is outsourced by the City Hall. The fleet, which previously had 12 vehicles, now operates with 15 vans in service, plus four reserve units for emergency or maintenance cases.

With this reinforcement, the TFD now has a total of 19 vans. The service is considered essential for the municipality's population, as many patients from Nova Friburgo need to travel to other cities because the treatments they need are not available locally.

Without the TFD, these residents would have great difficulty reaching consultations and exams in other cities. Intermunicipal transport is fundamental to ensuring access to healthcare for those who depend on these services outside the municipality.
