Ana Beatriz Nogueira and Andréia Horta star together for the first time on stage in the play "Goodnight, Mother," which opens on September 10 at Teatro Poeira in Rio de Janeiro. The actresses play respectively mother Thelma and daughter Jessie.

The text is by American playwright Marsha Norman, a Pulitzer Prize winner. The plot follows an intense and dramatic night between mother and daughter, which has already been adapted three times for film. One of these adaptations, starring Anne Bancroft and Sissy Spacek, competed for the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 1987.

In the story, Jessie calmly tells her mother she intends to take her own life before the end of that night. From that moment on, the two begin a long conversation in which secrets, resentments, affections, and silences from an entire lifetime come to the surface.

The Brazilian version has translation by José Pedro Peter and direction by Leonardo Netto.
