The landslide that struck the Nepal-China border last week left a toll of over one thousand dead. Nepal's disaster management authority raised the death toll in the country to 987, totaling 1,003 fatalities in both countries, with Chinese state media previously confirming 16 deaths in the Tibet Autonomous Region. The tragedy was caused by a massive wave of icy water and debris that engulfed entire villages.
The number of missing persons stands at 4,462, with 3,916 in Nepal and 546 in Tibet. Among those missing in Nepal are 583 foreigners from over 30 nationalities, while in China the number includes 261 foreigners from 23 countries. Indians represent a significant portion of the missing foreigners. Rescue teams from both countries continue working to find survivors in the affected areas.
