Portugal is registering significant growth in wind energy installation, with the first seven months of this year representing the biggest boost in wind turbine deployment since 2011. This is a milestone not achieved in 15 years in the country.
The increase in installed wind power reflects a renewed effort to expand renewable energy in Portugal, in a context of energy transition and environmental targets. The country has been investing in diversifying its electricity production sources.
In addition to the growth already observed, there are several new wind energy projects currently in the environmental licensing phase. These processes are underway and should contribute to continuing this trend of expansion of national wind capacity in the coming years.
