Admissions, OPA or "research". Ten changes that promise to simplify the stock exchange

Jornal de Negócios1 September 2026 at 08:00

Changes to the Portuguese and European stock exchange regulations begin to come into force this Tuesday, October 8. These changes were announced last week and include a set of ten measures designed to simplify access to the capital market.

Among the main changes are new rules for admissions, public takeover bids (OPA) and for the publication of studies and analyses about companies ("research"). The set of measures aims to modernize and facilitate the processes of entry and operation in the capital market.

The changes transpose European regulations and directives into national legislation, thus integrating Community norms into Portuguese law. This transposition is part of a broader effort of regulatory harmonization at the European level.

The stated objective of these changes is to simplify access to the capital market for both companies and investors, eliminating bureaucracy and making processes more agile and transparent.

Solar energy surpasses coal for the first time in installed capacity in China

China's installed solar energy capacity surpassed coal for the first time at the end of July, reaching 1,286 gigawatts against 1,285 GW of coal, making photovoltaics the largest source of electricity in the country in terms of installed power. Although coal remains fundamental for actual electricity production, renewable energy sources accounted for 41.2% of electricity produced in the first half of the year, with solar representing 13% of consumption. China predicts that non-fossil sources will be responsible for half of national production by 2030, as part of its objectives to reach peak emissions before 2030 and carbon neutrality before 2060.
