Traffic on Itinerário Complementar 8 (IC8) in Ansião, in the Leiria district, was resumed today after having been closed due to a serious accident. The road was reopened to traffic after rescue operations and removal of the vehicles involved in the collision were completed.

The accident occurred on the road and caused two dead and three seriously injured. The authorities did not specify the identity of the victims nor details about the condition of the injured.

The causes of the collision have not yet been revealed by the authorities. The GNR of Leiria is expected to investigate the circumstances that led to the incident on the IC8.

The closure of the road for several hours caused disruption to traffic in the region, forcing drivers to use alternative routes while operations were underway at the accident site.
