The inspection of the Bica and Lavra funiculars and the Santa Justa elevator, in Lisbon, is still ongoing, according to information released today by Carris. These three historic pieces of equipment have been closed for about a year.
The closure of these funiculars occurred following the derailment of the Glória elevator, another icon of the city of Lisbon. The accident led authorities to carry out safety inspections on the remaining historic elevators in the Portuguese capital.
Carris, the company responsible for managing these transport equipment, confirmed that the inspection work is still ongoing, and no dates have yet been announced for the reopening of the affected elevators.
These elevators, which are part of Lisbon's architectural and tourist heritage, are used by both local residents and tourists, and are considered important means of transportation in the city's hilly geography.
