The ministers of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, and of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Márcio Elias Rosa, met on Monday with the United States Trade Representative (USTR), Jamieson Greer, to discuss the tariff surge imposed by Americans on Brazilian products. The meeting took place after a call between presidents Lula and Donald Trump.
The meeting, however, ended without concrete progress. The Brazilian government reaffirmed that it seeks dialogue as a way to review the tariffs imposed by the United States. The Brazilian side emphasized being open to dialogue with the American authorities.
The two countries agreed to meet again on a date that has yet to be scheduled, in order to review the progress made in bilateral negotiations and in the technical meetings that will be held in the coming weeks. The next meetings can be virtual or in-person.
According to the Brazilian government, the country is open to dialogue in line with the historic bonds of friendship and mutually beneficial trade that characterize relations between the two countries.
