A student residence of the Polytechnic University of Bragança in Mirandela is already completed and ready to be inaugurated. This is the Miratua residence, built in a former hotel in the city centre, with capacity for 60 beds and already furnished. The president of the institution, Orlando Rodrigues, stated that he would like to have the minister present at the inauguration ceremony, depending on his schedule.
The remaining three residences should be ready between October and November. In Mirandela, another residence is being built with construction progress above 80% and capacity for 120 beds, which will be completed by the end of November. In the city of Bragança is the largest of all, with 200 beds, in the final phase of completion with some details still pending, and in Chaves, in the district of Vila Real, another residence with 120 beds is also under construction with progress above 80%. Orlando Rodrigues guaranteed that by the end of the year all four residences will be fully ready.
The two residences in Mirandela will address the lack of housing for students at the School of Communication, Administration and Tourism, which hosts approximately 1,200 young people. The mayor, Vítor Correia, mentioned that there was considerable pressure on the housing market, with practically no availability of houses, and that these residences will help reduce this pressure and facilitate access to housing.
The total investment exceeds 25 million euros, with significant funding from the National Plan for Housing in Higher Education. The Bragança residence cost over 9.6 million euros (7.4 million from PNAES), Miratua 2.9 million (90% funded by PNAES), and the other two residences a total investment of 13 million euros, with funding of 9 million from PNAES.
