The minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas of Angola, Diamantino Azevedo, asked this Monday the operators of the oil sector to exceed the target of one million barrels of oil per day, during a ceremony in Luanda commemorating 32 years of operations of Block 15. The official highlighted that Angola has already overcome the challenge of stabilizing production and that now the objective is to increase extraction volumes.
Diamantino Azevedo met with the general manager of ExxonMobil Angola, Brian Unietis, on the occasion. Block 15, located about 145 kilometers from the Angolan northern coast, is operated by ExxonMobil with partners Azule Energy, Equinor and Sonangol. The operating license for this deepwater block was extended until 2037, with an investment of three billion dollars.
The minister highlighted that, although Angola had gone for many years without tendering new blocks, in the last nine years 72 blocks have been tendered. He also informed that executive decrees on new offshore and onshore blocks will soon be published, which will be available for partners.
Regarding the angolanization of the sector, Diamantino Azevedo expressed his satisfaction, indicating that Block 15 has already reached 95% angolanization. However, he asked companies to invest more, seek to negotiate new blocks with the petroleum agency, and involve more Angolan service providers in the projects.
